Ghana secure qualification to 2022 AFCON, but what else is left to fight for in Group C?

A 1-1 draw against South Africa at the FNB Stadium on Thursday secured Ghana a qualification to the 2022 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in Cameroon.

The result meant that the Black Stars secured qualification to the AFCON with 10 points and with a game to spare, but what else is left to fight for in the Group?

For Ghana and São Tomé, there’s little to fight for, but for Sudan and South Africa, there’s so much to fight for and it is a matter of life and death.

Ghana go into the final group game with a home game against minnows São Tomé. The Black Stars need a win to make sure top spot in the group is secured.

Their opponents São Tomé have already been condemned to a bottom place finish and a win or draw against giants Ghana won’t change their situation. However, it’ll be historic for the small nation that are the four least ranked African country on FIFA ranking.

Up in North Africa is where the real battle is, The Falcons of Jediane will welcome Bafana Bafana to the Al Hilal Stadium in Khartoum for the final slot of next year’s AFCON

Sudan who sit 3rd in the group and are just a point behind South Africa need just a win to secure qualification to the next continental show piece event.

In the case of South Africa, they need to avoid a defeat in Khartoum to secure qualification.

Both games will kickoff at exactly 16:00 GMT.
